1 November 2006: National Palace Museum

I doubt anyone would wanna join the old fogey of me to view artefacts and relics, so I visited the National Palace Museum(国立故宫国家博物院) alone. It was a pity that photography is forbidden in the Museum; I had tried to take some flashless pictures discreetly but the museum guards always seemed dangerously nearby. Anyway, the exhibits consist mainly of painitngs, porcelain, sculptures, and bronze vessels, many of which are priceless gems that are more worthy of collection and examination than those preserved in mainland China. Many parts of the Museum are currently under renovation, and works will only be completed late this year, so it was rather un-timely of me to visit it today.

At the Museum compound, there were Falun Gong(法轮功) members in meditation. They played cassette tapes that recited both the chants of their practice and anti-China commentaries and narrations. The cult members had also hung on walls yellow banners that bore slogans such as "Imminent Collapse of Communist China" and "The Great Law of Falun". At that proximity, I didn't dare to snap close-up photos of them, so this is the best shot that I could have captured using my camera's zoom-in function:
